Oil Filter Change Mess
I do not know about the rest of you, but I found out at the dealer they commonly have the same problem I do.
The oil filter does not stay attached to the cap and as a result, the oil does not drain out when removing the cap. This means oil all over the place. Last change I put two inch wide shipping tape all away around after cleaning the housing with brake cleaner. No spills! The filter was stuck in there pretty good.

I would say that the centre rod has broken off from the filter cap - you need to get a new one. Also make sure you use the more expensive fleece filter.

Been awhile since I looked at this thread. Ignore the previous post, they did not know what they were talking about. E55 had fleece, but the E63 never, and nothing was broken in the cap.
However, the cap was slightly worn in holding the retainer clips on the filter and a new cap in fact solved the problem for now.
